Love this so much! Today I’m making a Mediterranean-influenced lentil soup with onions, carrots, tomatoes and spinach

I can go find the original recipe tho I tend to modify…

oh, gracious! you too are up bright and early! i ALWAYS modify. sometimes i try as instructed the very first time, but oh to me a vat of soup is invitation to improvise. and your soup is making my tummy growl. and the sun is barely up here.....

Babs, you are on to something!

Groucho Marx famously resigned from the Friar’s Club, writing, “I don’t want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member.” He would, however, share space with people like himself only if he needed dental work.

Mr. Needham’s admonition to use common words, like the Rail Splitter, certainly struck a chord. Needham’s Campbell’s Soup jingle ran in 1960 and 61, and then Andy Warhol first converted the sound into icon by December 1961.

Common words can move mountains, indeed.

In terms of common words, well, Ellen Zolotow most certainly fell far from that tree. As part of the 1960s counter culture, she rejected her birth name and chose Crescent Dragonwagon. Such were her gifts, though, that she has written fifty books, two novels, seven cookbooks and memoirs, all while becoming a James Beard Award winning chef, and launching the Writer’s Colony @ Dairy Hollow.

I would join that club.

For myself, I am dreaming of a “peripatetic symposium,” being a 9-syllable feast of autumnal delights, with cuisine from the cradle of civilization, interpreted by Samin Nosrat.

Onward!
